2014 Parker Barbera
We are very pleased to work with the Alisos Vineyard. This site is famous for producing wonderful red varietals, with good fruit, acidity and balance.
The Alisos Barbera vineyard block was created especially for Palmina in 2002 by grafting Barbera onto established vines. After harvesting the first vintage in 2004, the fruit was used exclusively by Palmina, until 2011. The steep south-facing hills, low yields and cool growing conditions of the Alisos Vineyard produce fruit that is superb, and results in a wine that is robust, flavorful and food friendly.
The fruit was harvested by hand in the first week of September. After hand sorting and a gentle whole cluster press, the wine was allowed to cold settle for 3 days before fermentation commenced. The wine was then transferred to neutral French cooperage. The wine remained in barrel, sur-lie for 18 months.
The wine is dark red in color and fills the glass with savory, brambly fruit character. The palate reveals high-toned red fruit with flavors of black cherry, tar, and fresh herbs. The velvety texture of the wine, soft tannins, and bright acidity create a perfect food wine.
